About Armand Jany

World of Armand Jany

Armand Jany was created in 2013 by Armand Baghdasaryan, an Armenian who moved to Spain after gaining experience in their family owned atelier in Armenia. He started in the fashion industry working for different multinational companies in Spain, Italy and Portugal. In 2020 he moved to live in South Africa and relocated his atelier to one of the most picturesque parts of the Garden Route, at The Heads in Knysna. He is the person standing behind Armand Jany bag design and the crafting process. Armand’s creations have a visionary approach to connect people with culture. He has a passion for exquisite things and he believes in the significance of treasured objects which develop an individuality through daily use and become essential companions over time.

Materials

We pride ourselves in our dedication to excellence in every aspect of our creations, to ethical manufacturing processes and to offering superb quality products. Our focus is placed on sourcing the highest quality materials that will ensure the longevity of our products. Our leather hides, skins and hardwares are sourced from one of Europe’s and South Africa’s most renowned tanneries and manufacturers. We work with tanneries and manufacturers that are committed to ethical business practices and minimizing their environmental footprint. We thoroughly research all of our leather suppliers to ensure that they uphold the highest ethical standards in regards to the community and environment where every skin used is legally sourced.

ZIPS
Our zips are extremely smooth, which makes them gentle on the hands and scratch-prone surfaces. To achieve this quality, the teeth in our zips are very closely spaced and polished several times over to ensure they open and close very easily. Our zips are manufactured in Switzerland.

THREAD
The selected thread used in Armand Jany bags is linen thread, which is smooth to the touch, exceptionally tear and abrasion-resistant, waterproof and has rot prevention due to the beeswax coating.

Handcrafted, Heritage and Savoir-faire

This marriage of French, Spanish and Italian savoir-faire is precisely what makes our products so superlative. Still, crafting a beautiful product takes time, which is why Armand Jany products are manufactured in very limited quantities in order to ensure absolute satisfaction.

All Armand Jany leather goods are designed and 100% hand crafted in our atelier based in one of the beautiful and charming spots of the Garden Route in Knysna, The Heads, South Africa. We use traditional skills with artisanal proficiency which is core of our brand values. The creation process for each Armand Jany bag takes numerous hours since all our bags are handcrafted. For all our creations the edges are polished and painted by hand. The stitching holes are hand punched and saddle stitched by hand.

Why saddle stitching?

Saddle stitching is one of the oldest stitches used in fine leather works which ensures that distinctive look. Saddle stitching is much stronger than the lock stitch that sewing machines produce. Each saddle stitch is created so that if one stitch were to come loose, the rest of the stitches would not be affected

Who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist."
